House of Reps Looks for Foreign Assistance in the Fight Against Insecurity

By

The House of Representatives stated on Wednesday, November 1 2023, that foreign cooperation will benefit the nation’s fight against insecurity.

This was said by Ahmed Satomi, the Chairman of the House Committee on National Security, during the committee’s first meeting in Abuja.

The legislator pointed out that Nigeria will be able to combat insecurity through partnerships and international cooperation as well as the deployment of pertinent technology.

“Let us not overlook the significance of international collaboration,” he remarked. In a globalized world, no country can fend off attacks.

“The idea of security nowadays transcends national boundaries and military power. It includes defending our democratic institutions, social cohesion, environmental resilience, cyberwarfare, and economic stability”.

“A comprehensive and inclusive strategy is required if we are to tackle the problems of the twenty-first century effectively.”

“We must acknowledge that civil liberties and human rights should not be sacrificed in the name of national security.”

As an alternative, we must work to achieve a careful balance that protects our fundamental principles and guarantees the security and welfare of our citizens.

To achieve national goals, he also emphasized the significance of ongoing research and multi-layered cooperation.
