NDDC Former Head Claims Rivers Crisis Needless

By

Ibim Semenitari, a Former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC}, has denounced efforts by certain political figures to thrust Rivers State back into conflict.

According to Semenitari, this was “unnecessary and avoidable.” The former head of the NDDC demanded a quick end to the crisis and warned it would not help the state.

She acknowledged that the state had experienced too many political crises, but it had never been the ultimate winner.

She declared, “This state has never been the ultimate winner and has seen too many political crises.” Every time, both the populace and the economy suffered.

“We can’t keep spinning in this depressing pit while other states climb the political and economic ladder.”

Siminalayi Fubara, the State Governor, was targeted for impeachment, a move denounced by Semenitari, who also held the position of State Commissioner for Information and Communication from 2009 to 2015.

The governor’s impeachment, she added, was absurd, considering how little time had passed since the administration took office.

“This runs counter to everything that is noble,” she continued. A sub-nation within the Nigerian Federation shall have just one elected governor to serve for a four-year tenure that may be renewed for an additional four, as stated clearly in the Nigerian Constitution. So why does anyone wish to invalidate the election results essentially?

She denounced the State House of Assembly problem as well, arguing that it was crucial to the smooth operation of the state.

She warned against those whose only objective is to cause chaos in the Rivers State House of Assembly. Doing so would only benefit anti-democratic forces and rob the state of vital development. She stated that the legislative branch’s independence and smooth operation are essential to the state’s stability.

“We must permit the state legislature to carry out its constitutional mandate, which is to use well-reasoned legislation to propel substantial growth in the state. The well-being of Rivers State and decent morals are negatively impacted by attempts to subvert an elected administration through the State House of Assembly.

Semenitari urged law enforcement agents to distinguish between political actors and Nigerian taxpayers when discussing the duty of security forces.
