Google Being Investigated For Antitrust Violations in Japan

Japan’s anti-trust authority, on Monday, 23 October 2023, announced that Google is being examined to ascertain if it broke laws by requesting preferential treatment from smartphone manufacturers.
The Japan Fair Trade Commission investigation added to the search engine giant’s troubles as it battles other competition regulators, notably those in the United States.
According to the Japanese government, Google is suspected of mandating its search programmes to be included in devices and to have their icons in certain locations.
Google has made agreements with Android device makers, not to put competing search apps in their products in exchange for a cut of the advertising money produced by Google searches.

The commission will accept public comments until 22 November 2023.
