Adediran Condemns Tribunal Verdict That Favours Sanwo-Olu’s Re-election
By
The Governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Lagos State during the 2023 general elections, Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, on Monday, September 25, 2023, expressed his dissatisfaction over the State Election Petitions Tribunal verdict which upheld the re-election of Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Jandor, through his formal petition, had argued in a motion that challenged the return of Sanwo-Olu and his running mate, Hamzat, in the March 18, 2023 governorship elections in Lagos State.
It did not go well with Jandor as Justice Mikhail Abdullahi held that Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Hamzat, were qualified to contest the March 18, 2023 governorship election in the state under section 177 of the constitution.
The Judge also noted that they were members of political parties and have had education up to school certificate level and above.
Jandor, while reacting to the development, said “The ruling was quite unfortunate as the panel refused to consider the credibility and convincing evidence presented before it to challenge the qualifications of the APC and Labour Party candidates by my legal team”.
Jandor’s dissatisfaction was made known to the public via a statement by Gbenga Ogunleye, the Head, Media and Communications for the Jandor4governor Campaign Organisation in Lagos State.
He holds the belief that the decision of the Tribunal to uphold the emergence of Sanwo-Olu was contrary to the provisions of the constitution and the Electoral Act 2022, especially “on issues bothering on qualification of a candidate in an election.”
The statement read, “JANDOR, however, assured the good people of the state that Lagos PDP will study the judgment and decide on the next step to be taken.
“This is not the end of the electoral process, it is just another stage. We will study the judgment and take decisions in the best interest of Lagosians.”
