Gunmen Kidnap Poet, Demand N20m Ransom in Rivers

Mr. Kennedy Adele, a Port Harcourt-based Poet have been kidnapped by some gunmen while on transit from Abuja to Rivers State on Friday, 15th September 2023.
Adele, was said to have travelled to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital for a literary performance, but was said to have returned late to Portharcourt when gunmen followed the vehicle he was in with other occupants and took them away to an unknown destination.
Adele’s family and friends appealed for his safe release, saying he was not a moneybag.
Faith Adele, his wife, said “her husband was expected back home on Monday, September 11, 2023, but he and other passengers were kidnapped.
Mrs. Adele told newsmen in Port Harcourt that the kidnappers had contacted her to demand a ransom of Twenty Million naira (N20,000,000.00).
She said, “He was kidnapped on Monday, September 11. The kidnappers reached out to me on Tuesday around 10 a.m., demanding a ransom of N20m. And they gave me till today, but I pray God will see us through this tough time.
Friends and colleagues of Kennedy have started an online campaign to gather the necessary funds for his ransom to enable him to regain his freedom.
Grace Iringe-Koko, the Spokeperson for Rivers State Police Command, reported that the police had yet to receive any official report on the incident when contacted for any progress report on the issue.
