Two Nigerians Win African Youth Scrabble Championship

David Ojih and Prestige Archibong, respectively emerged victorious in the U-19 and U-15 categories of the Winifred Awosika African Youth Scrabble Championship on 29th August, 2023.
The competition took place at Chrisland School, Lekki, Lagos, with participants from five African countries which include; Kenya, Liberia, Ghana, Uganda, and the host country, Nigeria.
David won 19 games and suffered five defeats to clinch the U-19 championship title after engaging in four days of intense mind games from 24 rounds.
Prestige Archibong who participated in the U-15 category, clinched the top honor by winning 16 games with a cumulative score of 2614. Quodos Aliu took the second position with 13 wins and a cumulative score spread of plus 1358. Clinton Imode came third place among the 88 participants from five countries.
Joy Ola emerged in second position with 28 wins and a cumulative score of p097. Lateef Musa, also from Nigeria, secured the third position with 17 victories and a cumulative score of 1012.
The winners were awarded a total of $9,000 in prize money, alongside valuable gifts including laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
