Ondo Assembly Appeals UN,NDDC To Rescue Ayetoro From Ocean Surge
- The Ondo State House of Assembly has called on the Federal Government, the United Nations, the World Bank, and the Niger Delta Development Commission to take urgent action and use modern technology to prevent the coastal community of Ayetoro from being destroyed by ocean surges.
The Assembly made an urgent appeal to the FG, international community, and aid agencies to deploy modern hi to save Ayetoro and other coastal‎ communities submerged by ocean surges in the local government.
During a plenary sitting on Thursday, the Assembly made an appeal to save Ayetoro from ocean surge.
The appeal was made after adopting a motion of urgent public importance moved by Mr Abayomi Akinruntan, the lawmaker representing Ilaje constituency 1.
During the motion, Akinruntan informed the Assembly that residents in the affected communities have lost valuable properties worth billions of naira and are presently homeless.
The lawmaker said, “It’s a recurring problem and we seek a lasting solution before the entire homes of my people at the constituency in Ilaje Ugbo, the oil-bearing communities in Ondo State are wiped away.
“I feel agencies like NDDC, NEMA and others need to explore with proper study by experts and deploy the same with best and latest technology for a solution to the ocean surge in the Ilaje communities.
