Osinbajo Sets to Deliver Lecture on Climate Change in USA

The Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), is set to deliver a special lecture on climate change at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, USA.

According to a statement from the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, Osinbajo is scheduled to depart Nigeria on Saturday for the event.

This will be Osinbajo’s second visit to the United States in seven months, following his meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris in September 2022.

According to Akande, “The Vice President’s lecture on Monday will be themed around Climate Change and a Just Transition and is hosted by the University’s Center for Africana Studies.

“Besides the lecture, the VP will also participate in an interactive session with students and faculty coordinated by Prof. Wale Adebanwi, Presidential Penn Compact Professor of Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania.”

“Prof. Osinbajo, a leading voice and strong advocate for a Just Energy Transition for Africa and the developing world, is currently spearheading efforts aimed at creating the African Carbon Market as one of the pathways of a just and sustainable transition,” the statement also read.

The University of Pennsylvania, which is one of the Ivy League private universities in the United States, was originally founded as a charity school in 174⊂0. It later evolved into an academy in 1751, thanks to the efforts of Benjamin Franklin. The university’s Center for Africana Studies is a merger of the Afro-American Studies Program and the Center for the Study of Black Literature and Culture, which occurred in 2015.

In partnership with several faculties of the university, including PennCarey Law, Perry World House, Wharton Business School, Coalition for Equity and Opportunity, and Perelman School of Medicine, the Center will host the Vice President’s Special Lecture.

Following his visit to the University, Osinbajo is expected to return to Abuja.
