Suspects accused of the murder of a final-year student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Okolie Arinze, have been handed over to the police.

OAU spokesman Abiodun Olarewaju disclosed this in an interview on Wednesday, in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The deceased, a final-year student of the Civil Engineering Department, was beaten to death by an angry mob on Monday for allegedly stealing a phone.

It was gathered that the deceased was beaten to death inside the Awo Hall on Monday, April 10, 2023.

The incident was said to have happened in the Awo Hall of the institution.

The deceased was rushed to the Emergency Medicine Department of OAU Teaching Hospital on Tuesday afternoon and was confirmed dead.

“Nobody knows that students can go to that level of indiscipline to cost the life of their mate,” Olanrewaju said.

He stressed that the suspects should have adhered to the constitutional provisions and the university’s regulations rather than taking the law into their hands.
