Census that is constitutional supposed to be carried out after decade did not hold in 2016 after it was conducted in 2006 last. The need for census is further enhance the planning for national growth in ways that matters as well as for distribution of social amenities.
It is in the above light that Malam Nasir Isa Kwarra , the National Population Commission, (NPC) made it convincingly clear that the commission has put up all necessary measures on ground to guard against all forms of malpractices as the nation prepares for the forthcoming population and housing census.
The commission through its spokeperson, Isiaka Yahaya, also emphasized that people living in distant places away from their place of origin must not necessarily have to travel home for the purpose of the census as many did for the past election. People would be counted at their places of residence.
The spokesperson for the Commission, said this Monday, 27th March, 2023.
He said “ People should stay where they are, to be counted. They are not to move to their states of origin. It is totally against the essence of the census. You have to be counted where you reside because that’s where you enjoy the social facilities like education and health, among others.
“Apart from this, when the time comes for people to be provided with infrastructure and other things this will not allow the planners to have accurate figures. People are not to move.”
