NYSC DG-Corp Members are not above Prosecution

NYSCThe National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Director-General, Brigadier-General Yusha’u Ahmed On Tuesday admonished the newly deployed Corp members to shun crime and criminal tendencies.

He emphasized that being a serving Corps member is not an immunity against prosecution for criminal offences.

Brig. Gen. Ahmed said this on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the three-week orientation course of Batch A Stream I corps members at the Amada temporary orientation camp in the Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

As the election draws nearer with corp members to participate at various positions, He asked the corpers to develop a sense of responsibility and shun activities that may portray the NYSC in a bad light.

He further sternly emphasize on shunning drug abuse and trafficking, cybercrime, advanced fee fraud and the spreading of fake news.

Therefore, I enjoin you to take a cue from them by performing the election duties with high sense of responsibility. You are to ensure adherence to the guidelines contained in the Electoral Act and, especially, remain neutral throughout the exercise,” he said.

Ahmed so assured the corps members that adequate preparations had been made with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies regarding their welfare and safety.

“It will interest you to know that the performance of your predecessors contributed to the credibility of the previous elections and earned NYSC accolades from both local and foreign observers.

“Therefore, I enjoin you to take a cue from them by performing the election duties with high sense of responsibility. You are to ensure adherence to the guidelines contained in the Electoral Act and, especially, remain neutral throughout the exercise,” he said.

Ahmed also assured the corps members that adequate preparations had been made with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies regarding their welfare and safety.

“As you get set to partake in this important national assignment, I would like to assure you that we have secured the commitment of the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies regarding your welfare and safety before, during and after the elections.”

“Accordingly, we are in constant liaison with security agencies and other critical stakeholders with a view to ensuring your safety as well as addressing other essential needs for a fulfilling service year.”

The PUNCH reports that the batch had no fewer than 839 members, comprising 465 males and 374 females.

These corp members will be posted to different local government areas for their primary assignment for the period of one year which will give the experiences and equip them more for public and civil service.
