Plateau United’s hope of playing in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup was blown away in Libya on Wednesday, following  a 3-0 loss to Al Akhdar in the reverse fixture of their play-off clash.

The Libyans advanced to the group stage on the away-goal rule courtesy of three second half goals.

Plateau United had won the first leg 4-1 in Abuja last week.

The Peace Boys held their hosts to a barren draw in the first half, but the Libyans began to breach their defense in the 58th minute.

Al Akhdar added a second goal in the 86th minute, while the third was deflected beyond the reach of Suraj Ayeleso, in goal for Plateau, in stoppage time, as the hosts claimed a 3-0 win.

The result further compounds Plateau United’s continental mishap, as they were initially eliminated from the CAF Champions League into the second tier continental competition.
