A Chinese man identified as Geng Quangrong has allegedly stabbed his lover, Ummukulthum Sani Buhari, to death at Janbulo quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State on Friday.

Reports revealed that the incident happened around 10pm when the Chinese visited the 23-year-old deceased at her parents’ house.

Abubakar Mustapha, a neighbour to the deceased told newsmen that Ummukulthum was a divorcee and the suspect was her boyfriend.

“The incident happen [sic] around 10:00pm last night. The murderer was her boyfriend since before she got married. Her husband divorced her and they went on with their friendship as boyfriend and girlfriend. He often went to her house. She was taken to UMC Zhair Hospital not more than a kilometre away from her house and she died,” Mustapha said.

Another neighbour, Muhammad Sani, told reporters that the suspect once attempted suicide because of the girlfriend but with the intervention of the police, the matter was settled.

“When she was about getting married, he once attempted suicide because of his love for her until the police intervened and everything was settled,” he said.

The mother of the deceased demanded justice as she narrated the affair between her daughter and the Chinese.

“I want the authorities to see to this criminal act. It was long since their love affair ended. She got married and later got divorced. That was when he came back to her life, pressing that he must see her,” she lamented.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident.

He noted that the case has been transferred to the command’s Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.

The deceased,Ummukulthum, popularly known as “Ummita” attended Kano School of Nursing and Midwifery.
