Senators To Impeach President Buhari Over Insecurity
By
Owing to the rising insecurity challenges faced in the country, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu has said the lower chamber of the National Assembly will soon serve President Muhammad Buhari his impeachment notice.
The senators of the opposing party have also given President Muhammadu Buhari six weeks ultimatum to address the pressing issue or face impeachment.
Senate Minority Leader, Philip Aduda, stated this on Wednesday while addressing reporters after the opposition lawmakers stormed out of the Senate plenary angrily chanting Buhari must go and the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan should follow to protest against the worsening insecurity condition across the country.
The Senate President Ahmad Lawan had, after an executive session, announced that issues relating to workings of the Senate and unity of Nigeria were discussed and asked the Senate leaders to proceed with the items listed on the Order Paper.
The Senate Minority Leader had raised a point of order to call for deliberation on issues discussed at the closed session which lasted for two hours, but Lawan ruled him out of order.
Piqued by the ruling, the opposition Senators stormed out of the plenary, chanting songs, calling for President Buhari to quit.
Elumelu, speaking at a function in Guzape, Abuja, said the House of Representatives will serve the President an impeachment notice soon.
“I was just briefed that Senators have served President Muhammadu Buhari impeachment notice. Very soon, the House of Representatives will serve President Buhari its impeachment”.
He however lamented that things have gone sore looking back at how far we have come. Elumelu further assured that they will do everything possible to rescue Nigeria from the failed All Progressives Congress (APC).
