FG Orders Immediate Closure Of Unity Schools, Directs NECO To Hasten Exams

By

With respect to emergent security threats from terrorists, the Federal Government of Nigeria has ordered the immediate closure of the Federal Government College Kwali, located in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu gave this directive in the early hours of Monday, July 25, 2022. He made it known that the closure was necessary resulting from a security breech on Sheda and Lambata villages which are suburbs of Kwali Area Council which also posed threat to the college. According to the Minister, the prompt intervention of the Security Agencies salvaged the situation.

The Federal Government in the same vein also directed the National Examination Council (NECO), to hasten the exams for the final year students to ensure their safety.

The Minister of Education emphasized that the principals of other Unity Schools across the country must interact with the Security Agents within their jurisdiction in a bid to prevent any security breech in the schools.

It should be noted that following the jailbreak that occurred at the Kuje correctional centre in Abuja, the terrorist group had warned of other attacks in schools and places of worship. The latest threats also followed an attack on a Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State where multitudes of worshippers were killed in cold blood.

Lately, a number of religious leaders have also fallen prey to terrorist groups, with some, unfortunately, losing their lives in the process.
Parents were seen scampering to evacuate their wards from the school located in the suburb of FCT, following the trending news on social media that the Federal Government shut down all Unity School.
