Minimum Wage: Nigerians Decry FG’s reluctance to Negotiate with Labour
By James Hughes
Many Nigerians have taken to social media to lament and complain about the pace at which talks for the new national minimum wage is going between the Federal government and the organized labour.

It is important to recall that the organised labour, NLC and TUC, has been locked in negotiations with the Federal Government over what the new wage will be. And so far, the negotiations have yielded no fruit.
The organised labour is holding out for a wage of N615,000, citing the worsening economic conditions in the country as one of several reasons. But FG has only responded with offers of N48,000, N54,000 and N60,000 all of which have been rejected by the labour unions.
“We need an agreement that will genuinely reflect the true value of Nigerian workers’ contributions to the nation’s development and the current crisis of survival facing Nigerians as a result of the government’s policies,” the labour movement said (as reported by Cable).
Meanwhile, NLC has threatened to begin a nation wide strike by May 31st if an agreement is not reached.
