Tinubu confers GCON title on Awujale of Ijebu

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as on Friday, conferred the second highest national honour: GCON — Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger on the Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebu land, Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona for his immeasurable and invaluable contributions to national development.
President Tinubu, represented by his vice, Kashim Shettimaa, made the announcement at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye during the commissioning of the Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona School of Governance Studies and the presentation of a book titled; “Reinventing Governance in Nigeria: The Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona Model.” which were part of activities and events celebrating his majesty’s 90th birthday and 64th coronation anniversary.
Tinubu described Adetona as a champion of democracy, noting that the monarch showed strength in the face of injustice and oppression during the struggle to restore democratic rule between 1993 and 1999.
Responding, the monarch appreciated the people for their support and for honouring him with their presence. He prayed for peace in the families, state, and the country.
