Court Remands Former CBN Gov Emefiele in Kuje Prison

The Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja has ordered the remandment of the Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele in the Kuje Correctional Facility pending ruling on his bail application.
Emefiele who is standing trial for alleged fraud and embezzlement, his trial had been stalled on three occasions up until Friday 17 November 2023.
The Federal Government previously gave him 20 charges on fraud to N6.5 billion, but reduced the charges to 6 to a tune of N 1billion upon which he was arraigned on Friday.

During the proceedings on Friday, Mathew Burkaa SAN, Emefiele’s Counsel, moved for the application bail, the FG counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo boldly opposed granting bail to Emefiele.
Justice Hamza Muazu, the presiding judge who took arguments on Emefiele’s bail application, adjourned till 22 November 2023 for ruling on the bail application, and 28 November for commencement of trial.
