Nairobi Court Orders Businessman to Surrender 12 Cars in 7 Days

The Nairobi High Court has ordered a city businessman to surrender 12 Cars and Ksh2 million in his account to the Asset Recovery Agency (ASA).
The orders issued by Judge Sifuna Nixon and gazetted by the Deputy Registrar of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Division stated that “the businessman should surrender the vehicles to the agency within the next seven days.”
ASA said the vehicles which were filed in court were bought with proceeds from a crime.
The Nairobi businessman was also ordered to provide the agency with the logbooks for the 12 vehicles.
Among the vehicles ordered to be surrendered were: Daihatsu Mira, Nissan Dayz, Suzuki Alto, Suzuki Wagon, Suzuki Hustler, Suzuki Spacia, Toyota Passo, and Mazda Atenza.
Also set to be seized by the police include a Daihatsu Mira, a Nissan Day, and a Toyota Sienna.
“An order is hereby issued directing the Director General of the National Transport and Safety Authority to register caveats against the records of each of the motor vehicles specified in order 3 above.”

“That the Respondent is hereby ordered to surrender the motor vehicles specified in prayer 3 above to the Applicant and be assembled at the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters on Kiambu Road with immediate effect,” read the orders in part.
The judge indicated that the orders would last for 90 days ahead of the mention and hearing of the case.
The date for mention of the case in 23rd January, 2024.
