Residents in Minna, the capital of Niger State, were taken unaware and panicked as suspected terror members engaged security operatives in a gunfight on Tuesday morning, 24 October 2023.

Security Operatives carried out an operation at Gebganu Area of Minna to clear out the suspected terrorists at the said location.

It was further gathered that the security operatives battled hard and recovered over 150 AKA47 rifles, about 3,000 live ammunitions, explosives, a rocket launcher and, an Anti-aircraft rifle from the house.

It was reported that Mubarak Abubakar, a night watchman in the community was hit by a stray bullet and is receiving treatment at the emergency unit of the IBB Specialist Hospital, Minna.

The residents stated that the operation which began at midnight went on for hours as the suspect engaged security operatives in a gun duel before he eventually escaped.

It was revealed that the suspect used what was believed to be a rocket launcher to bring down part of the fence through which he escaped. The security operatives arrested his wife and children.

The suspect was reported to have started shooting when he noticed the arrival of the security operatives through the CCTV cameras he installed in his house.

Allegedly, the suspect who has been on the watch list of security operatives purchased and moved into the house two years ago.

From the scene of the incident on Tuesday morning, the doors, walls and, windows were pierced with bullets while part of the two bedroom flat was brought down by the severity of the gun battle.

“Security operatives passed through front of our house when they were going but we didn’t know what they were going to do until we heard the sound of gun,” a witness said
