African Man Isolated Himself for 55 Years Because of Gynophobia
By
Gynophobia is an extreme, persistent, irrational fear of women. Gynophobia is sometimes referred to as a type of anxiety disorder.
Callitxe Nzamwita, a 71-year-old Rwandan man was only 16 years old when he decided that his fear of women (gynophobia) was unbearable. He could not stand the presence of the opposite sex nor speak with them, so he built a wooden fence around his home and has not stepped out of the property for over 55 years.
He said “I locked myself inside my house so that I could keep women at a distance. I don’t want women around me because they make me scared.”
The woman who lives beside him said, “I have known him to stay inside the house since I was a kid. It seems impossible to see him going out because he is really scared of women.”

It was further reported that Callitxe has been staying in a one-room house using it as his kitchen, bedroom, and toilet. Interestingly, he accepts food from female neighbours despite avoiding physical contact with them.
Another neighbour stated that “he does not accept our assistance or talks to us when we try to help him. Instead, we toss things into his house, and then he comes and picks them up. But he still takes what we offer from a distance, not letting any of us come close to him.”
