Kogi State: Gov. Bello Dismisses Assassination Attempt on His Life

The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello dismissed the assassination attempt on his life saying he is safe.

The Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo stated that the incident occurred on Sunday 22 October 2023 around 4 p.m. while on his way to Abuja for an official engagement.

Yahaya said on Sunday evening in Abuja that it was a misunderstanding that has been fully resolved. “This afternoon at about 2 p.m., we took off from Lokoja coming to Abuja and the journey was smooth along with my convoy. At about 4 p.m., my convoy, the security particularly had an encounter with another sister agency and there was a fracas,” he further said.

Within five minutes, it was resolved and we had a smooth journey down to Abuja, ever since I came I have been engaging in all the activities that brought me to Abuja.

Not too long ago, I began to hear and see on social media that there was an assassination attempt on my life. I want to clearly state; dear Nigerians, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, that there was no assassination attempt on me, Yahaya Bello, the executive governor of Kogi State by the military or by anybody,” he said.

Sometimes there will be misunderstandings between sister agencies that are performing their lawful duties; that cannot be ruled out most times. But assassination attempt, there is nothing like that. It has been fully resolved.

“And I don’t condone any act of indiscipline. That fracas to even have happened in the first place, I called on the Nigerian Police, the Nigerian Army, the DSS, and all law enforcement agencies that are around me and on the road to investigate it and ensure that whoever is culpable is punished according to the rules and regulations of the various services,” the Kogi governor added.
