FG’s Concrete Road Plan: Stop Plotting Against it, Umahi Warns Foreign Contractors

By

Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has warned foreign contractors not to sabotage concrete road technology.

Umahi emphasized that his administration will support the plan to implement concrete road technology.
Despite his reluctance to identify whom to blame, the minister promised to clamp down on contractors who cheat the Federal Government and Nigerians on asphalt thickness.

Umahi, at the state house on Tuesday, 10th October 2023, had asserted intrigue between resistant project workers and colleagues embracing the utilization of built-up cement and that he had secured the president’s support to continue with the new strategy.

He said,” You contractors cheat us on the thickness of asphalt. The bitumen imported is of poor quality, and then you start putting enhancers and modifiers. We don’t want that again, and there is no such thing overseas. Use the type of asphalt used abroad.”

“I have assembled an adequate number of conferences on this issue, and we should push ahead. Allow me to urge project workers who are getting and have ganged together. We have discovered that some of you must undermine me to demonstrate that substantial isn’t great.”

That is entirely false; concrete is fantastic. Go to Lagos Seaport and see what the project worker is doing. Go to my state to see what I did. The streets are still there and excellent on concrete. It is highly un-valuable to you since there is no gathering that will make us back down on the standards and strategy of the Ministry of Works. This arrangement has been gotten rolling and will likely stop assuming I am taken out of office by Mr President.

The Minister, in a gathering with all project workers taking care of federal roads on Wednesday, 11th October 2023, in Abuja,  instructed the contractors to conduct their workers to prepare for the site in no less than 14 days or lose their agreements, cautioning that anybody who neglects to get back to the place inside that cutoff time would be thrown out and supplanted with local project workers.

“The principal order to all project workers is to return to your site in around 14 days, and this mandate is under the agreement signed. Any workers for hire that mock this order following 14 days will get a letter of end and be endorsed by me. No more discussion, and this is vital. I’m arguing that you regard our situation and difficulties and move to the site to accomplish long-lasting work if manageable. There is a compelling reason to pressure me: take care of your business, and we will make the best choice. In any case, following 14 days, assuming you deny, you will see local workers for hire move to your site, and they will make it happen.

“So kindly quit hassling me with the cost citation. We have set our costs. Indeed, the chiefs met and expanded the cost even earlier today, and I acknowledged it. The cost is just for Trunk A. Trunk B, and C won’t partake in that cost since it will be on an alternate plan,” he instructed.

The minister further instructed that any contractor with four projects will not be qualified to offer any publicized positions, and there won’t be any activation for the individuals who have yet to convey.

As part of the utilization of asphalt, the minister said asphalt roads would appreciate just five percent varieties once, and the service won’t support different costs caused.

He noted, “Hence, any organization with four projects with the Ministry of Works will get one more task once he completes the one granted. Mr President just endorsed 60 projects, and we will begin the planning and the profiling, so on the off chance that you can get done with your tasks rapidly, you will be part of the projects; however, if you can’t complete your job, you can’t offer, and we will not separate among expatriate and nearby project workers. The house should submit to the Federal Ministry of Works’ new approach.

“Additionally, let me declare that we will convey severe measures. Each worker for hire returning to the site should provide us with a program of work. The ministry will handle your declaration with a program of work. Workers for employment that need a variety of costs should demonstrate what premise prompted an expansion in agreement amount. These means are necessary for installment.

“Condition number two for utilizing Asphalt is the 5% minor departure from cost and assuming you have depleted your 5%. You can’t partake in another five percent. Expansion on asphalt work is on mathematical movement. Cost is expanding consistently, and there is no cash to pay for these increments.”

Notwithstanding, the Association of Indigenous Contractors of Nigeria has said its individuals will probably cause project misfortunes if the public authority doesn’t support expansion demand by workers for hire.
