A Tribunal ruling on the election petition of Dauda Lawal, the sworn-in governor of Zamfara State Governor ended with Lawal emerging victorious again.

Governor Dauda Lawal described the election petition tribunal’s confirmation of his election victory as a clear expression of the will of the people on Monday, September 18, 2023.

Lawal secured a win in the March 2023 governorship election, defeating former Governor Mohammed Matawalle.

The Zamfara Election Petitions Tribunal that sat earlier today in Sokoto had affirmed the election of Lawal as the state governor.

Sulaiman Idris, the governor’s spokesperson, via a statement released on Monday in Gusau, emphasised that the tribunal’s verdict reflects the resounding choice made by the people.

“A while ago, Dauda Lawal was affirmed as the winner of the March 18, 2023, governorship election at the Zamfara Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Sokoto. The judgement was not surprising but rather an affirmation of the collective decision made by the unwavering people of Zamfara,” the statement read.

Dauda Lawal polled 377,726 votes to defeat Matawalle who polled 311,976 votes.
