A fire outbreak occurred at a building of Ibadan’s University College Hospital (UCH), Oyo State, on Saturday,19th of August,2023
The fire engulfed a portion of the UCH building.
Emergency responders were seen on-site to extinguish the fire.
UCH authorities stated that the fire, which affected part of the hospital, has been successfully extinguished, and there’s no need for alarm.
Professor Abiodun Otegbayo, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, explained that upon the incident’s onset, they alerted three fire services. “These services promptly deployed resources to the scene and contained the fire.
The inferno affected part of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and one theatre, but no patients were trapped, contrary to rumors”.
The CMD assured patients’ relatives that the situation is managed, with services continuing through alternative arrangements.
Funmi Adetuyibi, UCH Public Relations Officer, speaking with members of the press also confirmed the incident.
He said, “The fire happened in a room in one of our intensive care units but it did not affect any patients at the ICU. The patients have been moved elsewhere. The fire started in the nurses lounge,” he said.
“The fire has been put out. Everywhere is cool and calm and the hospital is running its normal service now.
“I also want to use this medium to inform you that presently, the hospital has a fire station which is under construction.”
