A new charity initiative called T200 Foundation has launched a unique outreach programme to provide meals for approximately 10,000 children who have been internally displaced, along with vulnerable residents from the Rabbah community in Sokoto State.

These children, falling in the age bracket of 0-17, are part of the population that had to leave their homes due to insecurity caused by banditry and other threats in the state.

They were given supplies such as bags of rice, spaghetti, tomato paste sachets, salt, among other essentials.

Emmanuel Osadebey, the Executive Director of the foundation, shared that during the meal distribution event at a non-formal IDP camp in the Rabbah Local Government Area, the innovative outreach aimed to extend the foundation’s compassion and support to the disadvantaged individuals in Sokoto State. The goal was to provide them with sustenance similar to what their counterparts in more affluent households receive.

Furthermore, the foundation organized engaging activities like a quiz and a dancing competition for the children. These activities were designed to nurture their sense of patriotism, as well as their skills and knowledge in areas like the national anthem, current events, counting from 1 to 100, and the 26 letters of the alphabet.

“It is high time we saw and develop the talents in these children and stop looking at their problems. We cannot achieve our target without coming to a community like this. We decided to come here so as to appreciate the impact of hunger in our society and the nation at large.

“We believe a hungry man is an angry man and one cannot contribute to the government without food. So, we want to help them to contribute their quota to the development of the country,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs in Sokoto State, Amina Kabiru, spoke on behalf of the Sokoto State Government and praised T200 Foundation for its valuable role in supporting the state government’s welfare initiatives.

She expressed the state government’s gratitude towards the various non-governmental organizations operating within the state, acknowledging their contributions in collaboration with the humanitarian sector.

While highlighting these contributions, she also revealed that the state government was actively formulating a strategy to facilitate the return of internally displaced individuals from the camp to their original residences.

This plan, however, is slated to be executed after the conclusion of the rainy season.
