Oyo Government Shuts Five Health Facilities for Quackery

On Thursday, 20th of July,2023, the Oyo State Government implemented protective measures to ensure the health and well-being of residents in Ibadan, the state capital. As part of this initiative, they sealed five private health facilities.
According to a statement from Rotimi Babalola, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, the healthcare facilities were shut down due to their failure to comply with regulatory standards.
The statement also pointed out that these facilities were guilty of employing unqualified and unlicensed doctors, commonly known as quacks.
During the inspection, alarming evidence of malpractice, misdiagnoses, and inappropriate treatments being administered to unsuspecting patients came to light.
Furthermore, the five healthcare facilities that were sealed were found to be lacking in terms of equipment, personnel, and compliance with standard medical regulations. Some hospitals were staffed with unqualified personnel who were practicing medicine without the required qualifications and licenses. This demonstrates the administration’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of quality and professionalism in healthcare services within the state.
The current government places significant importance on healthcare, with health being one of its primary programs. As such, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, regards the health of the people as essential, evident in the ‘omititun’ free health mission held quarterly throughout the state.
The closure of these hospitals is a clear indication that the state will not tolerate any compromise in medical standards that could endanger lives. The action taken reinforces the government’s dedication to maintaining the delivery of quality healthcare within its borders.
