NDDC To Tackle Ondo’s Ocean Surge Problem With Advanced Technology
The Niger Delta Development Commission has announced its commitment to finding a long-term solution to the continuous problem of sea incursion in Ayetoro Community located in the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State
More than half of the land in the Ayetoro coastal community, located in the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been taken over by ocean surge, posing a significant problem for the community.
The ocean surge has swept away many houses in the community, rendering several residents homeless.
Mr. Charles Ogunmola, the Executive Director of Project in the NDDC, has given assurance that the commission will use the best technology available to find a lasting solution to the problem of ocean surge affecting the Ayetoro coastal community in the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The NDDC’s Executive Director of Project, Mr Charles Ogunmola, visited the community on Wednesday to distribute relief and palliative materials to victims of the ocean surge.
During his visit, he promised to put in place infrastructural facilities that would stop the problem and explained that the solution would come in three phases.
He said, “We have been on this problem in the NDDC for over 12 years with no solution but I can tell you that in the nearest future, we are going to stop this incursion, protect the land and give the people of Ayetoro a better life.
“This is a phase of the intervention. We’ve brought some palliatives and more palliatives are still coming. We will make sure that every single requirement needed by that community is covered, from medicals, and cooking to comfort by these palliatives.
“The next phase, which is the second phase, will be to give temporary accommodation so that people who have been displaced can have roofs over their heads until we are able to rebuild and also address this perennial disaster.”
