- Ogun Alerts Residents of Flood
The Ogun State Government has alerted residents of Akute, Isheri, Mowe, Ibafo, Riverside Estate and other border communities between Lagos and Ogun states to relocate to avoid disaster as a result of another round of flooding.
This, according to the state Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, may occur between September and November, the second season of rainfall in the state as predicted.
The Commissioner who raised the alarm at a media chat in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, informed that the first season of rainfall this year has started this April till July.
He listed areas such as Onikoko, Sokori, Arakanga in Abeokuta, Sagamu, Ijebu-ode, Ilaro, Owode, Ijoko as flood-prone during the first season of rainfall.
Oresanya said the warning became imperative following the prediction of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency on the 2023 flood alert in the state.
The Commissioner cautioned against acts that could aid flood like incessant dumping of waste, erecting of structures on water ways, as well as dredging of rivers.
He urged those living around the flood-prone areas to relocate temporarily to safer place till the rain subsides.
