Ganduje pardons over 4,000 inmates in 8years

The Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has announced that his administration granted clemency to 4,013 inmates in correctional facilities across the state over the course of eight years.

Additionally, fines and compensations to the tune of N4.4 million were settled by the government during this period.
A statement signed by Hassan Musa Fagge, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of Kano State on Friday, confirmed this.

During the Eid-el-Fitr celebration at the Goron Dutse custodial facility, the governor represented by his deputy, Dr Nasiru Gawuna, pardoned 43 inmates who were serving jail terms for various offences.

He called on the freed prisoners to exhibit good character in society, and the Controller of the correctional service in the state, Suleiman Inuwa, explained that the gesture would help decongest the facilities and promote a peaceful atmosphere in the yard.

He also encouraged other states to emulate the Kano State Government’s actions while appealing to the beneficiaries to become law-abiding citizens and serve as good ambassadors of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
