NLC calls for Protection of Women’s Rights, Dignity on IWD
In celebration of the International Women’s Day (IWD) which Nigeria joined the rest of the world to honour on 9th March, 2023 the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) called the Federal Government to implement the submission of International Labour Organisation convention 190 which calls for the “realisation and protection of rights of women, increased productivity and dignity at work.”
This was related via a signed statement by the general secretary of the union, Emmanuel Ugboaja, the NLC further reemphasize its unwavering support and commitment to continually “advocate for the adoption and implementation of policies and strategies that promote gender equality in workplaces, unions and governance.”

“We, therefore, call on the Nigerian Government, employers and trade unions to adopt strategies for the implementation of the ratified ILO Convention 190 for the realization and protection of women’s rights increased productivity and dignity at work.
“I once more reiterate the call on government and all stakeholders to adopt the gender-responsive approach to governance, service delivery, education, development and civic engagement aimed at addressing all forms of gender inequality towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
“In the same vein, we advocate for the proper implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act, 2015 which prohibits all forms of violence against persons in both private and public life, and provides maximum protection and effective remedies for victims as well as punishment for offenders,” the NLC said.
This is to align to the realities and challenges that the woman gender faces every and to further strengthen their confidence in pursuit of their rights at all cost.
