Osinbajo Labels Shettima Shareholder Of His ‘Ice-Cream-Producing’ Company
By
Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has labelled the Vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kashim Shettima, as the chairman and major stakeholder of his ice-cream-producing company.
Osinbajo jocularly made the remark at the book launch of Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, at the Nigeria Air Force Conference Centre in Abuja on Tuesday.
Recall that Shettima had labelled the Vice President as an ice-cream seller during the heat of campaigning for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the APC presidential ticket in his interview on ‘Politics Today’, a Channels Television programme aired on June 5.
“Osinbajo is a nice man. But nice men don’t make good leaders. Nice men should be selling popcorn, ice cream,” Shettima had said at the time.
On this very programme, Shettima had also referred to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, as a tomato trader, who does not possess the capacity to challenge the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
He, however, apologised to both parties two days after the news went viral.
It, therefore, did not come as a surprise when the vice president alluded to the issue again after the duo met.
Osinbajo excitedly teased, “I welcome the vice presidential candidate who is running on the platform of APC, Distinguished Senator Kashim Shettima, who is also the majority shareholder and chairman of Yemi Osinbajo Ice Cream Company.”
The audience who laughed hilariously at the joke caught Shettima squirming uncomfortably in his seat, watching from the sideline.
When Shettima took over the podium to give his speech, rather than hit back at the vice president, he gently described him as a ‘very nice man’.
Among the dignitaries in attendance at the book launch were former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan; Vice Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Kashim Shettima and his successor in Borno State, Babagana Zulum.
