Kebbi State Rejects Management’s Directive
By
The management of the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology (KSUSTA), in a letter dated August 9 and signed by the academic secretary, Abdulazeez Salihu announced the resumption of academic activities in the university.
The letter stated that students could commence the registration procedure within the stipulated period as the management had already approved August 29th, 2022 for the second semester.
Clashes continue as the Kebbi state branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) rejected the university’s letter to students instructing them to resume academic activities in the university.
The union further termed the set resumption date as false and unrealistic. This was noted in a letter dated September 9, 2022.
Following the Union’s congress on Friday, it was gathered that the management threatened the union with the no work, no pay policy. It was also noted that the management has local demands to fulfill, pending the national resolve.
The branch chairman of the union, Yale Ibrahim urged members whose salaries have been withheld not to succumb to pressure and intimidation from the university management. He however noted that the directors, deans and other principal officers who were paid have committed to donating a part of their salaries to the unpaid lecturers.
“We want to state here that the KSUSTA branch of ASUU is still on strike and will not back down. We are resolute and firm on our stand to continue with the strike till our mother union says otherwise”, he finally said.
